I had my 30 week appointment with my doctor today. The baby is measuring at exactly 30 weeks and the heart beat sounded great. My blood pressure was a little bit high the first time they took it but then when they repeated it a little bit later is was normal. It was 126/90 and then is was 110/70. I am going to be checking it at home and reporting in to her to make sure it was a one time thing. I had no protein in my urine, no excessive weight gain and no headaches so she was not concerned that I have pre-eclampsia or will have it later but it freaked me out at first.
I reported to the nurse that I had a couple episodes over the last few days of seeing spots which I wasn't really worried about until the nurse told me my blood pressure was slightly high. After the nurse had told me it was high I am in the room for 15 minutes alone freaking myself out feeling sure I am going to have to be on bed rest immediately and kicking myself for not calling the minute I had my first episode of what I thought was just another weird pregnancy thing.
But once I described what I was having to the doctor she said it was most likely low blood sugar. Especially given my most recent lab results which she wanted to share with me....
When I had my glucose tolerance test my blood sugar came back low (I am apparently anti-diabetic!) so I seem to have a tendency towards bottoming out after eating really high carb things, she said I need to eat more protein more often just to prevent any episodes. The baby will continue to suck what he needs out of me but if I don't want to be dizzy, seeing spots, etc. I should pay more attention to what and when I am eating.
Since most of my favorite things to eat are heavy on carbs low on protein I think she is probably right. But if that is my biggest problem, she says that I have no need to worry about anything. Just eat more- poor me :-)
She thinks baby Minder is going to be a totally normal sized baby (unlike me at birth, she also thinks my 10 pound breech birth story is insane and swears that I won't have a huge baby or be allowed to deliver breech!). My appointment was a little upsetting at first because everything had been so normal and gone so smooth up to this point but she was very reassuring about my concerns but didn't treat me like a crazy person either. That is why I like her, she is the right amount of worried about things and doesn't over or under react.
Off to the store to buy nuts and eggs!
